Registration and checklists are now closed for the 2012 program.

Thank you for joining Kent County and Kent ISD in the pursuit of a better environment and your interest in showcasing your school’s contributions. The Green Schools award program originated with legislators who wanted to encourage teachers and administrators to do even more with energy savings and environmental awareness. The program is quite simple and this web site gives you everything you need.

If you’re an educator in a Kent ISD school, just click “Get Started” to find some simple instructions, then “Sign In” to register. Complete 10 or more of the  activities listed, or propose a few of your own, and fill out the online Checklist. It’s that easy and all online. At our  Green School Awards ceremony in April, Kent ISD will award your class  a Green School Certificate.

You can now earn one of three levels of Green School Certificates – Green, Emerald or Evergreen.  To earn a Green Certificate, complete 10 activities, 15 for an Emerald Certificate or 20 or more for an Evergreen Certificate.

For a major project or energy savings in your entire district, Kent County may also give a special Chairman's Award. See the Chairman's Award page for more information, then just email your information* to apply.

Kent ISD will award the David D. Smith Memorial Award to one district demonstrating a true commitment and leadership to being green, including building or remodeling to LEED standards.

Deadline: March 1

*To promote your efforts and provide data to Kent County, we may need verification of some of your activities or energy-savings, and will let you know if we do.

Green Schools 2012

This year there were 74 Green School Awards including 43 Green School Award winners, 22 Emerald and 9 Evergreen. Four districts received the Kent County Board of Commissioner's Chairman's Award. Instead of holding an awards ceremony that only some schools and some students can attend, we mailed the awards along with a DVD presentation. This gave the schools an option of how they wanted to present the award.
