Strong Schools, Strong Communities

East Grand Rapids Public Schools is located in the heart of a small neighborhood community in West Michigan. Three elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school provide approximately 3000 students with rigorous academic programs, excellent opportunities in the arts and co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that meet the developmental needs of the whole child. Our district stands out as a model of public education and we have received many local, state, and national accolades, honors, and awards in our long history of excellence.  At East, our motto of "A Tradition of Excellence" continues to be a commitment, a challenge, and an expectation. Strengthening our schools strengthens our future workforce, helping develop talent right here in our district. The students and staff in East Grand Rapids Public Schools are grateful to our voters for approving the Strong Schools, Strong Communities millage, which we are putting to good use focused on teaching and learning.

District Mission

Educating and inspiring each student to navigate successfully in a global community

Career Learning

We help students consider and connect with possible careers, build the skills expected in the workplace and learn about options after graduation, including college, technical training, or going directly into the workforce.

Academics and Beyond

Strong academics are the basis for all of K-12 learning, beginning with literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies. In addition to these areas, we engage students with a wide range of learning experiences and courses including art, music, drama, physical education, world languages, business, and technology. The district’s high school International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme was implemented in the Fall of 2016 as another learning opportunity.  We also have after school opportunities for students ranging from athletics, music, drama, and several other academic pursuits including robotics, We The People, Quiz Bowl, Model United Nations, Odyssey of the Mind, Science Olympiad, and Online Math League.

Support for Students

We work hard to support students so they succeed academically, socially, and emotionally during their K-12 learning journey. We believe in the development of the whole child and support all students through services that address their needs. We utilize a multi-tiered system of support that begins with high quality curriculum and instruction and support students with appropriate interventions.

Early Childhood

Early childhood is a crucial time in children’s lives, a time when they engage in the world around them and start to build the foundation of the basics they will use in school and beyond. Our preschool program is accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and helps children  prepare for school success. During the school year East Grand Rapids Public Schools offers preschool programs, and before and after school child care for EGRPS students in kindergarten through fifth grades. Camp East is our district's summer child care program. A variety of planned activities are offered, including arts and crafts projects, games, story time, opportunities for small and large muscle movement, and outdoor play.
