Early Childhood
Early childhood, a period of extraordinary growth and development spanning from birth to kindergarten entry, lays the foundation for a child's lifelong success. During these formative years, children actively explore the world around them, acquiring essential skills and knowledge that will serve them well in school and beyond. Bright Beginnings at Northview Public Schools offers comprehensive support to families with young children. Our programs include:
- Great Start Readiness Preschool: High-quality early learning experiences that prepare children for kindergarten success.
- Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE): Specialized programs tailored to the unique needs of young learners with disabilities.
- Developmental Kindergarten: For children who may benefit from an additional year of developmental support before entering traditional kindergarten.
These programs, individually or in combination, provide a strong foundation for each child's unique learning journey, ensuring they are well-prepared for future academic success.
Academics and Beyond
At Northview Public Schools, we prioritize a strong academic foundation across all grade levels, from kindergarten through high school. Core subjects like literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies form the cornerstone of our curriculum. Beyond these fundamentals, we enrich the learning experience with a diverse array of courses, including art, vocal and instrumental music, physical education, world languages, computer science, and advanced problem-solving opportunities. Notably, Northview is one of the few districts in Michigan to provide dedicated teacher librarians in all our elementary schools, fostering a lifelong love of reading and research.
Support for Students
At Northview Public Schools, we are committed to student success. We achieve this by investing in our staff, programs, and security measures. Our dedicated team includes highly qualified educators and licensed social workers who provide academic, social-emotional, and mental health support. We partner with community resources to remove barriers and ensure students get the help they need, quickly. To foster a safe and secure learning environment, we employ a full-time School Resource Officer and other security personnel. Additionally, we collaborate with Interquest Canine to utilize trained dogs for building inspections and emotional support. For more details on our safety and security initiatives, visit our School Safety Measures page.
Career Learning
The Northview High School Counseling Department offers a comprehensive Career Awareness/Prepare Curriculum, designed to guide students towards their post-secondary goals. This curriculum explores a wide range of pathways, including:
- Higher education: Exploring two- and four-year college options, the application process, and financial aid.
- Career and technical education: Investigating workforce certifications, technical training programs, and career exploration.
- Military service: Providing information and guidance on military career options.
The curriculum is delivered through a blended learning approach, combining in-person and virtual instruction, including large group presentations and small group discussions. To further enhance student learning, we utilize the Mavin and Naviance Student platforms.
Northview also offers students valuable hands-on experience through:
- Kent Career Tech Center (KCTC) programs: We are excited to partner with KCTC, offering two distinct programs on-site at our high school.
- Work-Based Learning Program: This program allows students to gain valuable work experience while earning high school credit, providing real-world skills and career exploration opportunities.
